Hellow,

I was just wondering if any of you have skype. Will I be able to set it up on my own, or will I need to get a sighted person to help me? How did you or do you get on with skype and is it very easy to use.

Hi. Unless you're just sitting down to a computer for the very first time and don't understand the windows basics, skype is a snap. In fact, you really won't need to make very many changes to it at all, it should just work from the get-go. If you use JAWS, there are scripts for it but they are *not* required to use it. They just offer little things that are nice to have, like the ability to add mood text to a screen name, or tell exactly when someone signs in and out. The very best way to know if it's easy or not for you is to just try it. If you have questions we'd be happy to try and answer them.

If you want the skype scripts, they can be found at

Also remember to keep updating it because they usually fix accessibility issues and sound quality etc. And also from the view menu go to accessible and check the options in there. One is for simplify graphicks and the other for extended keyboard commands or something.

Thank you, everyone who's posted so far. I've managed to make an account on skype, but was wondering if anyone knows if I'll be able to add the zone by phone number to my contacts?

You can add zone by phone as a skype contact but you won't be able to call it for free. You will need to buy credit to do this. But if you call another computer it is free. But you have some free minutes to use skype out if i remember right so you can try it and see if you like it.

If you want to call zbp with your comp, why not just use sip phone software?

Post 12 by mistervera (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Friday, 23-Nov-2007 19:51:36

still don't you half to pay if you use cip phone soft ware?

no no, it's free taht way. I use gizmo project, and that works beautifully for zbp. lol Woks beter than my cordless phone. People hate it when i cal on that. but no sip phne software is the way to go for zbp. For voice chatting you can also use gizmo and sj phone etc, but skype's the one i and many others use for that. also if you need things like a number in another country, (i have a number in the states, so it's a local call for my fiancee), skype is the fella. Loads of oter features too.

Unfortunately, I've just found out that you have to call land line numbers from skype. I have tried using sip phone software and it doesn't work too well, unfortunately.

Hmm. wonder why the sip doesn't work for you? the SJphone works fine for me, as long as I bring down the firewall when I want to use it. For some reason, even if I tell the firewall to allow SJPhone to go through, it doesn't work unless I bring it down entirely. But that's the only problem I've had with it.

I've got skype credit now, so I can call zone by phone, the only thing is, I don't think there's a hash key on the computer keyboard.

Post 17 by SingerOfSongs (Heresy and apostasy is how progress is made.) on Tuesday, 27-Nov-2007 18:40:10

To get the hash, or number as most screen readers call it, type shif+3.

OK. Thank you. I'll try it.
